Nicki Embleton

We hope that Nicki won’t mind us electing her as an Ossett Original, but she has been on our list of people to nominate for a long time. Today, 18th May,  is a very special day for Nicki so we wanted to say thank you to her for all the work she has done for us and for many other volunteer organisations in Ossett and Wakefield.

Nicki is a proper Ossett gal, educated at Ossett School and Wakefield College, Nicki still lives in Ossett despite her work for Cancer Research UK taking her all over the country. Nicki is a long time supporter of many arts and cultural organisations. She’s Vice Chair of Wakefield Civic Society, a founding shareholder of Unity Works, a friend of The Hepworth and Yorkshire Sculpture Park and has helped us at Ossett Observer by hosting our Pop Up Museum as part of Wakefield Lit Fest, Festival In A Day in 2014.

Nicki worked in PR for events management companies, telecommunication companies and local authorities before she decided to put her excellent communication skills into something where she could really make a difference.  She’s a rare bird, often found up to her eyeballs in mud and resplendent in bright pink as she organises and hosts many Race For Life events for Cancer Research UK. In 2015 she herself became the face of Cancer UK’s awareness raising campaign for Clinical Trials after she had her own battle with cancer.

We are really proud to know Nicki and appreciate the work that she and many like her do in raising awareness of the need for research and development in the treatment of Cancer. Thank you Nicki, you are a true Ossett Original and we’d like to say thank you for all you do for the town and for others.
